First, I have to say how heartening it has been to see the outpouring of support for our climb and cause. The media coverage, donations, and words of encouragement have meant the world to us. Of course, much thanks goes out to my loving wife for maintaining the blog while we were on the mountain.

Mark and I arrived home safely this week and are re-acclimating to electricity, hot water, and real pillows! One of the great advantages of a few weeks of hardship in the mountains is the appreciation it gives us for the little conveniences in life, like microwave ovens.

To answer those toe related questions, mine are fine. I developed a few blisters during the long descent, but nothing too serious. Mark had some more serious blisters, but I am sure he is healing up fine as well.

We hope you enjoy viewing the photos on the new link. Be sure to turn on the captions during the slideshow to get a description of each photo!

We will be sure to follow up with some more post climb thoughts, and you can always post a question to the blog, or e-mail it directly to either of us.

In regards to my fathers health, we have been blessed with good news. His physicians have determined that his "atypical" lymphoma does not pose an immediate threat to his health, and therefore they will simply monitor it for the time being, and no treatment (chemotherapy) is currently required.

Climb for a Cure will continue to support lymphoma education and research. We continue to encourage donations for this years climb, and we hope to sponsor fund raising climbs in the future .

Thank you!

-Jeff

Jeff and Mark have made it down to Plaza de Mulas. They each hiked with 80 lbs on their backs. They will still have to sleep in their tents tonight, but they got a good warm dinner. They were so excited to get spaghetti and meat. Jeff said that is a plate of spaghetti noodles and red sauce with a steak on top of it! It was a long day of hiking down and Jeff said he is afraid to look at his toes. They HURT! He said he will have to duck tape them tonight for the hike out tomorrow. At least tomorrow they will have mules to carry their gear, and they will have a bed to sleep on! Jeff said he will be able to check his email Tuesday am. So you can send him a note there if you want.

THEY MADE IT TO THE TOP!!!

After a 10 hour climb they made it from camp 2 to the summit. They spent about 45 minutes on top and headed down. The trip down only took about 4 and 1/2 hours. Jeff was beat and his toes were hurting him. They had beautiful weather today. Tonight the clouds were rolling in down at camp 2. They will start to head back down the mountain tomorrow. They arent sure how far they will get. I will let you all know more when I know more!

I just heard from Jeff. They tried again to make it up to camp 2 today and had to turn around because of the winds. The weather has changed drastically! It is now snowing and it is very cold! To keep warm last night they slept with hot water bottles in their sleeping bags. (This does not sound like fun to me! I wont be signing up to go on the next one!) Tomorrow the weather is supossed to break and they will try to go straight to high camp. Right now he said the best weather day to summit is the 12th.

Word from Jeff and Mark today was all about wind! They tried to make it to camp 2 with the rest of their belongings, but were forced to turn back about 1/2 way up because of the winds. The forcast is not good for tomorrow, but they are going to try. If they do not get there tomorrow then on Friday they will go directly to high camp. Jeff is thankful for the ipod I loaned him!

John is doing well. We are just waiting to hear what the doctors plan to do next. Waiting is the hardest part!

cya tomorrow!

Jeff called tonight to say that they decided to start the move to camp 2. They were supposed to rest today but when they woke up they had enough energy to hike half of their gear up. But now they are BEAT!! They will rest tomorrow for sure, so he says! So far the weather prediction of strong winds has not happened. They are glad for that.

I will write more when I hear from him next! I love seeing the comments and the emails. Jeff and Mark will love to read them when they get home!

Jeff just got off the phone and this is what he had to say-

We have moved to camp 1 at 16,400 feet.Higher than any mountain in the contingent US. It took us 2 days to move all of our gear. Each day our packs weighed 40-50 lbs. We have pitched our tent in a small gully on a glacier. A small river presented itself to them right in the middle of their camp, thanks to the warm weather! Mark using his architectural skill has diverted it around our campsite. We are expecting high winds for the next two days, so we may get completely moved to camp 2 until the 10th. For now we plan to rest for a day and then we will start moving fuel and food to camp 2.

He said that camp 1 was pretty busy. Almost all the campsites were full. I will fill you in on more when I hear from him.
